Located on the edge of the southern-most Lake of the Broads network in East Suffolk, Broad Roots was founded by John and Lynne Ward in 2011 to promote and encourage participation in folk, roots, traditional and acoustic music, and arts in the area. Broad Roots aims to organise concerts, festivals, workshops and other events across a wide variety of cultures and genres. Broad Roots’ ethos is to collaborate and network with other clubs, organisers, promoters and artists in the region and beyond, to share ideas, enhance communication between contributors to the arts and music scene and to reach new audiences.
Broad Roots stages occasional events at venues in the locality, booking such quality artists as Martin Carthy, The Wilsons, Rory McCleod, Vin Garbutt, Attila the Stockbroker, O’Hooley and Tidow, Hannah Sanders and Ben Savage, Steve Tilston, Richard Grainger, Horses Brawl, Sam Carter, Mary Humphrey and Anahata, The Woodland Creatures and many others.
Broad Roots has been closely involved in the organisation of the Folk East Festival since it’s inception and books, programmes and oversees the Broad Roots stage. It has also organised the folk programme of the Southwold Arts festival and helps with the booking of folk acts at the famous Blaxhall Ship Inn in Suffolk.
